We work to conserve the grounds and forests of the Valle de Bravo - Amanalco basin.

These actions help improve the quality of life of the people that live in this territory.

Our actions

What we do to conserve the basin

We have four lines of action that a team of highly-capacitated and committed local young citizens operates in the Valle de Bravo – Amanalco basin.

Forests and grounds

We conserve the grounds and forests of the basin by working as a team with the communities of the basin

Water monitoring

We monitor the quality of the water in strategic points in the basin. Working in alliance with the local population and the CCMMSS.

Productive projects

We activate projects that generate income to the families living in the community, which are our main allies in the conservation of the basin.

1 Forests and grounds

Alongside the basin landowners, we carry out a series of actions and sustainable practices to conserve, protect and restore grounds and forests.

Objective

Containment of the growth of the agricultural frontier

Conservation of the fertile layer of agricultural grounds for an increase in crop productivity

Combat against water and wind erosion

Forest protection and reforestation of abandoned agricultural plots

Transition towards organic agriculture and crops with higher economic yield

Currently we’re working on the following projects

Currently we’re working on the following projects

Cover crops

The georeferenced area at the moment is 1,070 ha

Organic fertilizers

They are in the process of elaboration and application in agricultural plots

Reforestation

Up until 2022 we have reforested 488 hectares

Living barriers

During 2018 we have georeferenced a total of 38.5 ha out of 100 ha that we have as a goal

Milpa interspersed with fruit trees

We currently work with 41 hectares of milpa interspersed with fruit trees. This exercise promotes crop diversification and an alternative to promote good practices for soil management

We have conserved and restored more than 1,900 hectares of soils and forests!

2 Community development and eco-technology

Its objective is to reduce pollution and pressure on the forests and bodies of water, as well as the emission of green house gases.

The eco-technologies are:

Catchment gutter, sand-based filter, cistern with capacity to store 10,000 liters and washing pool with gray water filtering system

Sand and mud-based stove, draft, storage shelves and food preparation and comal.

Water Closet with separation of solids and liquids, with composting chamber and personal hygiene space for women.

The orchards that we install measure 10 x 1 m and allow families to have access to food free of agrochemicals while protecting the soil.

We currently work in
with the following communities

with the following communities

Corral de Piedra, Capilla Vieja , Sabana de Taborda , Sabana del Madroño y San Simón

We have installed more than 4,000 eco-technologies, saved more than 9,736 tons of CO2, reduced 1.5 tons of firewood, and stored more than 30 million liters of rainwater!

3 Water monitoring

Monitoring is carried out in partnership with the Mexican Civil Council for Sustainable Forestry (CCMSS) based on the criteria of the US-EPA DE 235

We’ve monitored the quality of water monthly for over 8 years.

We are currently analyzing 36 strategic points in the Valle de Bravo - Amanalco basin

A traffic light has been created that determines the quality of the water depending on the amount of feces found in it. If the traffic light is red, then it indicates that it is very dangerous for human contact.

We have an Environmental Education program in various schools in the basin.

If you’re interested in monitoring a site, contact us at [email protected]

Festival Río Tizates - Las Flores

Alongside various civil associations and authorities of the Valle de Bravo municipality, we participated in the Festival Río Tizates - Las Flores, an event that generated reflection on the different sources of pollution of the river as well as cleaning tasks in which children, young people, and adults.

We have conserved and restored more than 1,900 hectares of soils and forests!

4 Productive projects

Local families are our main allies, with is why when we improve their lives we improve the quality of life in the basin

Productive projects are divided in:

Agro-ecology

We created a network of local producers and consumers committed to the production and consumption of food free of agrochemicals under the philosophy of “think global and act local”. With this project, it’s possible to improve the income and nutrition of the participating families and reduce the contamination of the soil and water in the region.

Ecotourism

By developing sustainable economic activities based on ecotourism, we provide opportunities to generate sustainable well-paid jobs with low ecological impact, so that the forests are conserved, protected and managed by the inhabitants and owners of the same.

We’re currently working on the following projects

We’re currently working on the following projects

San Lucas Bikepark

Project that seeks to protect and conserve 500 hectares of forest in the Valle de Bravo-Amanalco Valley

Pajareadas

Activity organized once a month in the Monte Alto reserve, it consists of bird watching and is led by one of our guides. If you want to sign up for the bird watching group, write to us at [email protected]

Other projects

There are many ways to help.

Aside from our actions, we also have other projects that at the same time share the objective of bringing the community to the basin and support it for the good of all.

Worm tower

Take advantage of vegetable waste from your home

Tool to process vegetable organic waste at home, it works by placing a buried container in a green area.

Help the basin by being a part of it

Activities focused on monitoring biodiversity and natural regeneration, as well as generating a collection of seeds to produce them in a nursery and then re-introduce them.
